Fall Bat Control
For When They’re More than Decor
Now that it’s September, Fall is right around the corner. The season brings crisp weather, a spooky vibe, and more bats. Learn more about fall bat control and help ensure the only signs of bats in your home are in the seasonal decor.
Fall Bat Control
By now, the last of the newly born bats should be flying. All bats are beginning to build up their fat reserves for winter. They’re also in search of a warm place to shelter from the harsh weather. This includes caves, secluded buildings, and your attic.
That’s why this is the month you should be extra vigilant about noticing signs of bats in your home. If you do find signs, you have the rest of the month to remove bats without a special permit. That doesn’t mean you have to remove them on your own.
Signs of Bats
Other than an actual sighting of a bat flying around your home, there are some other signs to consider:
- Strange odor. Bats leave a lot of waste behind. It won’t take long for you to smell it.
- Dropping damage. This waste also leads to mold and corroding wood and drywall.
- Squeaking sounds. Could be one or two or could be a colony of dozens.
Any of these signs should be enough to seek professional help to rid whatever is causing it. If it’s indeed bats, you may have to wait until after the maternity period is over (typically mid August). This is partly because mother bats can do a lot of damage to your home trying to get back to their pups.
Bat Removal
Since there’s a short window of time, an involved process, and the careful cleanup of toxic waste, it’s best to leave bat removal to the professionals.
One of the best ways to remove bats is installing a one-way door that only allows bats to exit the premises. Once they’re out, cleanup can commence.
Prevention methods should also be put in place to help ensure bats don’t come back. They only need a small gap in your roof or attic space to squeeze through. These gaps should be properly sealed, one-way doors removed, and any remaining holes or vents reinforced with wire mesh.
If you see or hear any signs of bats, now’s the time to contact Cardinal Pest for an inspection and proper removal before they make your attic their winter home.
